The free bill checker

BillMender's free bill checker runs entirely from what you type into the form on this site. We do not ask you to upload a photo or PDF of your bill, and the line items, amounts, and treatment descriptions you enter are not stored on our servers as identifiable records tied to you — they exist only in your browser for that session.

We do record an anonymized, aggregate summary of each check — which rule types were flagged, at which hospital, and the estimated dollar amounts — with no name, no line-item descriptions, and nothing that identifies you or your specific visit. We use this aggregate data to improve the checker and to publish general per-hospital findings once enough checks exist for a given hospital to be meaningful.

If you purchase a dispute letter packet

Payment is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number — Stripe handles that directly. We store your email address and a purchase record (amount, date) so we can help you if something goes wrong with your order.

We create an account record tied to your email at the time of purchase. As of this version of the product, that record does not yet have a working sign-in or self-service re-download page — if you need your packet again, contact us at [email protected] and we'll help directly. We do not store the specific bill line items, dollar amounts, or any other protected health information associated with your visit — only the purchase and account metadata described above.

Analytics

We use PostHog to understand how visitors use this site (pages viewed, whether the checker was started/completed, whether checkout was started) so we can improve it. This is aggregate product-usage data, not the content of your bill.

Who else sees data

Our infrastructure providers — Stripe (payments), Supabase (account/purchase records), Vercel (hosting), and PostHog (analytics) — process data on our behalf under their own privacy and security terms. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone else.

Your choices

You can ask us to delete your account and purchase record at any time by emailing [email protected]. Because the free checker never stores your bill content in the first place, there is nothing to delete on that side beyond closing your browser tab.
